Usage-based daily budget: $0.10/day keyless, $1/day with a free key; more than 100 requests per second, or exhausting the daily budget, returns 429. The key is optional and may be passed as ?api_key= or a Bearer token.

Notes

Keyless GET /works returns 200. A key raises the daily budget; it is not required for a plain GET. No OpenAlex key is stored. Result sets change every fetch, so the checker omits content_hash.
