Painful, but necessary: a qualitative process evaluation on patient experiences with modified prolonged exposure as early intervention after rape (the EIR study)
Overview
This qualitative study explores the experiences of 15 women who participated in a randomized controlled trial comparing modified prolonged exposure therapy to treatment as usual at Norwegian Sexual Assault Centres. Participants reported that the research process was beneficial and meaningful, facilitated by a respectful team, and they favored direct trauma-focused support over general psychosocial care. The resource highlights survivor preferences for integrating evidence-based interventions into standard services and notes the feasibility of conducting such trials with recent assault survivors.
