Internet‐delivered psychological treatments: from innovation to implementation
Overview
This paper reviews the evidence base for internet-delivered cognitive behaviour therapy (ICBT) over the past two decades, noting its effectiveness for anxiety and depression compared to waiting lists and face-to-face CBT. It addresses potential negative effects, change mechanisms, and implementation challenges, including provider attitudes toward blended versus standalone digital treatments. The authors also discuss future directions such as machine learning, adaptation for diverse populations, and other therapeutic modalities delivered online.
