Group-based compassion-focused therapy for prolonged grief symptoms in adults – Results from a randomized controlled trial
Overview
This randomized controlled trial evaluates the efficacy of an eight-week group-based Compassion-Focused Therapy for adults with clinically relevant prolonged grief symptoms following the loss of a spouse or parent. The study compared 42 participants receiving the intervention against 40 in a waitlist control group, finding no statistically significant effects on primary or secondary outcomes at post-intervention or six-month follow-up. The authors suggest that the treatment may not target core maintaining processes of prolonged grief or that the specific operationalization was suboptimal.
