Augmenting cognitive processing therapy to improve sleep impairment in PTSD: A randomized controlled trial.
Overview
This randomized controlled trial investigates whether adding three weeks of sleep-directed hypnosis before Cognitive Processing Therapy enhances outcomes for individuals with PTSD and comorbid sleep impairment. The study compares a hypnosis group against a symptom monitoring control group, measuring changes in sleep, PTSD severity, and depression levels. Results indicate that while hypnosis improved sleep and depression more than the control condition, it did not significantly augment PTSD recovery during the subsequent trauma-focused intervention.
