Interpersonal Problems, Mindfulness, and Therapy Outcome in an Acceptance-Based Behavior Therapy for Generalized Anxiety Disorder
Overview
This study examines the relationship between interpersonal problems, mindfulness, and treatment outcomes for generalized anxiety disorder in a randomized trial comparing acceptance-based behavior therapy to applied relaxation. The research analyzes data from 81 participants to determine how pre-treatment interpersonal issues and changes in mindfulness correlate with symptom severity at post-treatment and follow-up intervals. Findings indicate that while initial interpersonal problems did not predict overall GAD severity, remaining difficulties after treatment were linked to outcomes at six months, and increased mindfulness was associated with reduced interpersonal problems.
