Imaginal desensitisation plus motivational interviewing for pathological gambling: randomised controlled trial
Overview
This randomized controlled trial compares six sessions of imaginal desensitization plus motivational interviewing (IDMI) against Gamblers Anonymous for individuals with pathological gambling. The study reports that participants receiving IDMI experienced significantly greater reductions in gambling urges, behavior, and symptom scores compared to those assigned to Gamblers Anonymous. Additionally, the resource notes that individuals who did not respond to Gamblers Anonymous showed improved symptoms when later assigned to IDMI.
