Behavioral Activation as a Mechanism of Change in Psychotherapy for Late-Life Depression
Overview
This secondary data analysis examines whether behavioral activation mediates improvements in depression among older adults participating in the Engage psychotherapy trial. The study utilized mediation analysis on data from 92 participants in a randomized controlled trial comparing Engage to Problem Solving Therapy. Results indicate that while changes in behavioral activation were associated with reduced depressive symptoms, this factor did not fully account for the treatment effects.
