Cognitive behavior therapy for anxiety disorders: 40 years of progress
Overview
This paper presents a meta-analysis of 432 randomized controlled trials to evaluate whether the efficacy of cognitive-behavioral therapy for anxiety disorders has changed from the 1970s to the present. The author examines mean effect sizes across decades using independent assessor ratings, self-reports, and behavioral approach tests. Results indicate that treatment effects have generally remained stable over time, with no significant overall change in clinical improvement proportions.
