Adapting group schema therapy for older adults with personality disorders: lessons learnt
Overview
This paper reports on an adapted group schema therapy protocol for 29 older adults with personality disorders, aiming to improve feasibility and outcomes compared to previous brief interventions. The study found that the adapted treatment resulted in only small effects on symptomatic distress and no significant changes in early maladaptive schemas or personality functioning. Authors suggest that older patients may require more intensive treatment dosages and a combination of group and individual sessions to achieve meaningful behavioral change.
