A Randomized Feasibility/Acceptability Trial of Acceptance and Commitment Therapy for People with HIV Who Drink at Unhealthy Levels
Overview
This paper reports on a randomized feasibility and acceptability trial of a brief, telephone-delivered Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT) intervention for people with HIV who engage in unhealthy alcohol use. The study involved 49 participants randomly assigned to either the ACT group or a brief alcohol intervention control group, with data collected post-treatment and at follow-up intervals up to 12 months. The primary objectives were to assess recruitment, retention, delivery feasibility, and participant acceptability, while also gathering preliminary descriptive outcome data on alcohol use and mental health symptoms.
