Knowledge, literacy and media among the Iban of Sarawak. A reply to Maurice Bloch An earlier version of this article was published in the Proceedings of the Sixth Biennial Conference of the Borneo Research Council. University of Malaysia, Kuching, 1014 July 2000. The article follows from research I carried out in Sarawak for some 17 months in 19968 was part of a PhD thesis with the Anthropology Department at University College London, supervised by Dr Simon Strickland and Professor Chris Tilley. I was officially attached to both the Majlis Adat Istiadat (Council for Customary Law) and the Sarawak Museum in Kuching. My doctoral research was supported by the Anthropology Department and Graduate School at University College London, the Evans Fund of Cambridge University and the Central Research Fund of London University. Nilai kejujuran merupakan salah satu prinsip utama dalam ajaran Islam yang memiliki peran penting dalam membentuk karakter dan profesionalitas seseorang, khususnya bagi tenaga kesehatan. Profesi di bidang kesehatan menuntut tingkat integritas moral yang tinggi karena berkaitan erat dengan keselamatan dan kesejahteraan pasien. Kejujuran dalam konteks ini mencakup kejujuran dalam tutur kata, tindakan, pengambilan keputusan klinis, dan penyampaian informasi medis. Tujuan penelitian ini adalah untuk menelaah peran sentral nilai kejujuran dalam ajaran Islam sebagai fondasi dalam membangun profesionalisme tenaga kesehatan. Kajian ini dilakukan dengan pendekatan deskriptif kualitatif melalui studi kepustakaan, menggunakan sumber primer berupa Al-Qur'an dan hadis, serta referensi sekunder dari buku dan jurnal ilmiah yang membahas etika profesi dan kesehatan. Hasil analisis menunjukkan bahwa implementasi kejujuran berpengaruh positif terhadap mutu pelayanan, memperkuat kepercayaan pasien, dan mencegah pelanggaran etika. Dalam praktik medis, hal ini tampak pada transparansi dalam menyampaikan informasi medis, ketepatan diagnosis, serta tanggung jawab terhadap rekam medis dan tindakan yang dilakukan. Islam menempatkan kejujuran sebagai prinsip universal yang wajib dijalankan dalam seluruh aspek kehidupan, termasuk dalam praktik profesional. Oleh sebab itu, integrasi nilai kejujuran dalam sistem pendidikan dan praktik tenaga kesehatan sangat penting dalam membentuk sosok tenaga medis yang tidak hanya ahli secara teknis tetapi juga memiliki integritas moral yang tinggi. Penelitian ini merekomendasikan pentingnya pendidikan etika Islam dalam kurikulum kesehatan serta pelatihan etika secara berkala.
