Long term effectiveness of dialectical behavior therapy versus enhanced usual care for adolescents with self‐harming and suicidal behavior
Overview
This paper reports on a 3-year follow-up of a randomized trial comparing dialectical behavior therapy adapted for adolescents (DBT-A) to enhanced usual care for youth with self-harming and suicidal behaviors. The results indicate that DBT-A led to a significantly greater long-term reduction in self-harm frequency, which was mediated by reduced hopelessness during treatment. However, no significant differences were found between groups regarding suicidal ideation, depressive symptoms, or global functioning at the 3-year mark.
