Enhancing Pre-Treatment Motivation Improves Forensic Mental Health Outcomes
Overview
This study examines the impact of adding a brief motivational preparatory program to standard forensic psychiatric care. The intervention, grounded in hope theory and motivational interviewing, was evaluated against a waitlist control group using self-report measures of hope and motivation. Results indicated that participants experienced increased motivation for change, modest reductions in aggressive behavior, and significantly higher engagement in subsequent treatment programs.
