Childhood Threat and Deprivation and Links to Mental Health Behaviors and Health Risk Behaviors Among Young Sexual Minority Men: The Differential Roles of Mindfulness and Emotion Regulation
Overview
This study examines how childhood threat and deprivation relate to mental health and health risk behaviors in young sexual minority men, focusing on emotion regulation and mindfulness as potential mediators. The research analyzes data from 317 participants to determine if difficulties in emotion regulation or levels of mindfulness explain the links between early adversity and adult outcomes. Results indicate that both threat and deprivation are associated with negative outcomes, with emotion regulation mediating the effects of threat and both factors mediating the effects of deprivation.
