Preliminary evidence for cognitive mediation during cognitive-behavioral therapy of panic disorder.
Overview
This study investigates whether cognitive changes mediate improvements in panic disorder across different treatment modalities, including CBT alone, imipramine alone, and combined approaches with placebo or medication. The research involved 91 participants assessed before acute treatment, after treatment, and during a six-month maintenance period. Results suggest that shifts in panic-related cognitions may explain symptom reduction specifically in interventions that incorporate cognitive-behavioral therapy.
