Psychotherapy for PTSD – a scoping review of how change during treatment has been studied
Overview
This scoping review maps how changes in PTSD symptoms have been studied during evidence-based psychotherapies between 2000 and 2023, focusing on research objectives, measurement timing, and statistical modeling. The analysis of 115 eligible studies reveals that Prolonged Exposure and Cognitive Processing Therapy are the most common modalities, with temporal precedence and time-stable predictors being frequent research aims. The resource highlights that current measurement practices often prioritize protocol duration over theoretical considerations and notes a lack of ecological momentary assessment in existing literature.
