Long-term outcomes of Acceptance and Commitment Therapy in drug-dependent female inmates: A randomized controlled trial
Overview
This randomized controlled trial compares the long-term efficacy of Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT) against Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT) for drug-dependent female inmates. The study assessed 37 participants at baseline, post-treatment, and up to 18 months later using measures such as the Addiction Severity Index and Acceptance and Action Questionnaire II. Results indicated that both therapies reduced drug abuse and anxiety sensitivity, but ACT uniquely reduced mental disorder rates and maintained higher abstinence rates at the 18-month follow-up.
