Treating war- and conflict-related nightmares in children and youth: outcomes of a school-based intervention
Overview
This open trial evaluated a school-based intervention inspired by imagery rehearsal therapy and trauma-focused cognitive behavioral therapy for war-exposed children and adolescents in Gaza. The study involved 1,093 students aged 6–17 who reported recurrent traumatic nightmares, assessing outcomes over an eight-week period. Results indicated significant reductions in nightmare frequency, with approximately half of participants reporting no nightmares post-treatment and gains maintained by a subset at ten-month follow-up.
