The Price per Prospective Consumer of Providing Therapist Training and Consultation in Seven Evidence-Based Treatments within a Large Public Behavioral Health System: An Example Cost-Analysis Metric
Overview
This paper presents a cost-analysis metric designed to help public behavioral health systems evaluate the financial implications of implementing seven evidence-based treatments. The authors calculate training, consultation, and indirect labor costs per prospective consumer using Medicaid claims data to estimate the number of eligible individuals for each therapy. The study highlights significant variation in implementation costs across different modalities, such as Dialectical Behavior Therapy and Cognitive Behavioral Therapy, noting that total costs do not necessarily correlate with the size of the target population.
