Cognitive behavioural therapy in multiple sclerosis: A randomized controlled pilot study of acceptance and commitment therapy
Overview
This randomized controlled pilot study evaluates a five-session group intervention using acceptance and commitment therapy (ACT) for multiple sclerosis outpatients experiencing anxiety or depression. The research compares ACT against relaxation training, measuring outcomes related to psychological symptoms and acceptance levels at pre-treatment, post-treatment, and three-month follow-up intervals. The findings highlight distinct therapeutic emphases between the two approaches and suggest potential benefits for further investigation into brief group interventions for this population.
