Mindfulness, Acceptance and Catastrophizing in Chronic Pain
Overview
This cross-sectional study examines how mindfulness and general psychological acceptance relate to pain-related catastrophizing in 87 chronic pain patients. The results indicate that general psychological acceptance is a strong predictor of catastrophizing, whereas mindfulness measured by the MAAS was not. The authors suggest that treatment should focus on accepting unwanted experiences generally rather than specifically on pain, and recommend a broader conceptualization of mindfulness.
