Mindfulness-based stress reduction and cognitive behavioral therapy for chronic low back pain: similar effects on mindfulness, catastrophizing, self-efficacy, and acceptance in a randomized controlled trial
Overview
This randomized controlled trial compares Mindfulness-Based Stress Reduction (MBSR) and Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT) against usual care for adults with chronic low back pain, focusing on changes in catastrophizing, self-efficacy, acceptance, and mindfulness. The study examines baseline relationships among these variables and tracks their progression over 52 weeks across the three groups. Results indicate that while both active treatments effectively reduced catastrophizing compared to usual care, there were few small differences between MBSR and CBT, suggesting similar effects on these psychological mechanisms.
