Acceptance and commitment therapy (<scp>ACT</scp>) for people with dementia experiencing psychological distress: A hermeneutic single‐case efficacy design (<scp>HSCED</scp>) series
Overview
This paper presents a hermeneutic single-case efficacy design series investigating acceptance and commitment therapy (ACT) for individuals with dementia experiencing psychological distress, delivered remotely with carer support. The study analyzed data from three clients to assess the intervention's effectiveness and acceptability through independent expert adjudication. Results indicated that one client experienced reliable reductions in distress attributed to ACT-specific processes, while two others showed no change. The authors suggest that ACT may be a feasible approach when combined with strong client-carer relationships and individualized adaptations.
