Existential thinking and religious/spiritual struggles in patients with major depressive disorder receiving cognitive-behavioral therapy
Overview
This study investigates the relationship between existential thinking, religious or spiritual struggles, and mood symptoms in patients with major depressive disorder undergoing cognitive-behavioral therapy. The research compares individuals with and without spiritual struggles against healthy controls to assess changes over a 16-week treatment period. Findings indicate that while standard symptom scales improved, elevated levels of existential thinking and spiritual distress persisted among those with R/S problems compared to non-clinical groups.
