One year follow-up and mediation in cognitive behavioral therapy and acceptance and commitment therapy for adult depression
Overview
This randomized controlled trial compares the long-term efficacy and working mechanisms of Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT) and Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT) for Major Depressive Disorder in adults. The study followed 82 patients for one year, finding that both therapies produced significant reductions in depressive symptoms with no statistically significant difference between them. It further examines how changes in dysfunctional attitudes, decentering, and experiential avoidance mediate treatment outcomes across the two modalities.
