Absence of structural brain changes from mindfulness-based stress reduction: Two combined randomized controlled trials
Overview
This study presents findings from two combined randomized controlled trials investigating whether an 8-week mindfulness-based stress reduction (MBSR) program induces structural brain changes. The researchers analyzed MRI scans from meditation-naïve participants assigned to MBSR, an active control, or a waitlist group. The results indicate no evidence of neuroplastic changes in gray matter volume, density, or cortical thickness compared to the control groups.
