Mindfulness-based cognitive therapy for patients with chronic, treatment-resistant depression: A pragmatic randomized controlled trial
Overview
This randomized controlled trial evaluates the efficacy of Mindfulness-Based Cognitive Therapy (MBCT) combined with treatment-as-usual for 106 outpatients with chronic, treatment-resistant depression. The study reports that while the intention-to-treat analysis did not show a significant reduction in depressive symptoms compared to control, the MBCT group demonstrated higher remission rates and improvements in rumination, quality of life, mindfulness skills, and self-compassion. Per-protocol analyses indicated that participants who completed the program experienced significantly fewer depressive symptoms than those receiving standard care alone.
