The efficacy of mindfulness-based cognitive therapy in recurrent depressed patients with and without a current depressive episode: a randomized controlled trial
Overview
This randomized controlled trial evaluates the efficacy of mindfulness-based cognitive therapy (MBCT) combined with treatment as usual for patients with recurrent depression, comparing outcomes between those currently experiencing a depressive episode and those in remission. The study reports that MBCT participants showed reduced depressive symptoms, worry, and rumination alongside increased mindfulness skills relative to the control group. The authors conclude that MBCT is equally effective for both subgroups and suggest that symptom reduction may be mediated by decreased rumination and worry.
