Comparing Mindfulness Based Cognitive Therapy and Traditional Cognitive Behavior Therapy With Treatments as Usual on Reduction of Major Depressive Disorder Symptoms
Overview
This study compares Mindfulness Based Cognitive Therapy (MBCT), traditional Cognitive Behavior Therapy (CBT), and Treatments as Usual (TAU) for reducing symptoms in patients with Major Depressive Disorder. Ninety adults meeting DSM-IV criteria were randomly assigned to one of the three groups and assessed pre- and post-treatment using clinical interviews and self-report inventories. The authors report that both MBCT and CBT demonstrated significant efficacy in symptom reduction, concluding that MBCT appears as effective as CBT for current depression.
