A longitudinal comparison of metacognitive therapy and acceptance and commitment therapy models of anxiety disorders
Overview
This longitudinal study compares Metacognitive Therapy and Acceptance and Commitment Therapy models by examining how cognitive fusion and experiential avoidance mediate the relationship between metacognitive beliefs and anxiety or stress symptoms in 106 nonclinical participants. The authors hypothesized that ACT concepts would explain the link between dysfunctional metacognitive beliefs and symptom outcomes over a nine-month period. The resource is intended for researchers and clinicians interested in theoretical comparisons of these therapeutic approaches.
