Practical Implications of Metacognitively Oriented Psychotherapy in Psychosis
Overview
This paper reports on a pilot study evaluating the feasibility and acceptance of a shortened 12-session version of Metacognitive Reflection and Insight Therapy (MERIT) for twelve individuals with schizophrenia. The study measured changes in metacognitive capacity using the Metacognition Assessment Scale-Abbreviated and found nonsignificant moderate to large effect sizes, suggesting potential benefits despite the small sample size and lack of a control group. The authors conclude that the results support further investigation through a multicenter randomized controlled trial.
