Positive Side‐Effects of Psychotherapy: The Influence of Cognitive‐Behavioral Therapy on Self‐Concept in Patients With Panic Disorder
Overview
This study examines how cognitive-behavioral therapy influences self-concept in 215 patients with panic disorder, specifically noting improvements in self-esteem as a side effect of treatment. The research assesses changes in self-concept scales and symptom severity before and after a five-week manualized intervention to determine if baseline self-esteem predicts therapy outcomes. Findings suggest that CBT enhances various facets of self-concept, which may potentially optimize treatment results for this population.
