Mindfulness-Based Relapse Prevention for Substance Use Disorders: A Pilot Efficacy Trial
Overview
This pilot randomized controlled trial evaluates the feasibility and initial efficacy of an 8-week outpatient Mindfulness-Based Relapse Prevention (MBRP) program compared to treatment as usual for adults with substance use disorders. The study involved 168 participants who had recently completed intensive inpatient or outpatient treatment, assessing outcomes at pre-intervention, post-intervention, and 2 and 4 months later. Results indicated that MBRP was feasible through high attendance and satisfaction, and showed initial efficacy with lower substance use rates, reduced craving, and increased acceptance compared to the control group.
