Effect of app-based mindfulness on extinction recall – a 7T-fMRI study
Overview
This randomized controlled trial investigates how app-based mindfulness meditation influences fear extinction recall using 7T-fMRI in healthy participants. The study compares a group receiving four weeks of mindfulness training against a waitlist control to assess changes in physiological and neural threat responses. Results indicate that mindfulness enhanced the retrieval of safety memories by reducing activation in subcortical threat-processing regions, suggesting a mechanism distinct from top-down cognitive inhibition.
