Dialectical Behavior Therapy Skills and Urges to Use Alcohol and Substances: An Examination of Diary Cards
Overview
This study analyzes diary card data from 48 individuals in a community mental health setting to examine how specific DBT skills domains relate to urges for alcohol and substance use. The authors report that emotion regulation, mindfulness, distress tolerance, and interpersonal effectiveness skills were associated with decreased urges among participants with high baseline usage frequencies. The resource is intended for researchers or clinicians interested in the mechanisms of DBT adherence and its potential impact on craving reduction.
