When the present visits the past: Updating traumatic memories in social phobia
Overview
This exploratory study describes a cognitive restructuring and imagery rescripting protocol designed to update distressing memories and associated self-images in individuals with social phobia. The authors present clinical examples and data from 14 patients who underwent semi-structured interviews to identify recurrent images, followed by interventions aimed at modifying the meanings of these memories. The resource reports significant within-session changes in beliefs and image distress, as well as reduced social anxiety cognitions one week later.
