IL-8 and IL-1RA serum levels predicting depression treatment response in 6-week follow-up
Overview
This study examines whether baseline serum levels of interleukin-8 (IL-8) and interleukin-1 receptor antagonist (IL-1Ra) predict treatment response in 242 patients with major depressive disorder undergoing behavioral activation therapy. The research compares these inflammatory markers against changes in depression scores over a six-week period, controlling for factors such as age, BMI, and alcohol use. The findings suggest that higher baseline levels of IL-8 and IL-1Ra are associated with a smaller relative improvement in symptoms, particularly among patients with milder depression.
