Visually grounded emotion regulation via diffusion models and user-driven reappraisal
Overview
This paper describes a system that uses text-to-image diffusion models to visually augment cognitive reappraisal by transforming spoken reinterpretations into supportive images. It is intended for individuals who may find traditional verbal reappraisal strategies cognitively demanding or abstract. The authors report on a small within-subjects experiment suggesting that this AI-assisted approach can reduce negative affect and enhance regulatory efficacy through multimodal coherence.
