Brief Acceptance and Commitment Therapy for Fibromyalgia: Feasibility and Effectiveness of a Replicated Single-Case Design
Overview
This study evaluates the feasibility and effectiveness of a brief, five-week Acceptance and Commitment Therapy intervention for fibromyalgia using a replicated single-case design with seven patients. Participants received either individual or group therapy while tracking outcomes like pain and fatigue via a smartphone app for ecological momentary assessment. The results indicate that patient changes were not uniform, with some showing moderate improvement across several outcomes and others showing modest gains in fewer areas. The authors conclude that this individual-focused design is a viable alternative to large-scale trials for pain research.
