Metacognitive therapy versus disorder-specific CBT for comorbid anxiety disorders: A randomized controlled trial
Overview
This randomized controlled trial compares Metacognitive Therapy (MCT) and disorder-specific Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT) for patients with comorbid anxiety disorders, including PTSD, social phobia, and panic disorder. The study evaluates outcomes at post-treatment and one-year follow-up using various standardized measures of anxiety, depression, and interpersonal problems. Results indicate that while MCT led to greater reductions in anxiety symptoms immediately after treatment, both therapies were effective long-term with no significant differences in overall efficacy or comorbid symptom improvement.
