Effectiveness of Metacognitive Therapy in Patients with Social Anxiety Disorder: A Pilot Investigation
Overview
This pilot study compares metacognitive therapy (MCT) against applied relaxation for treating social anxiety disorder in four patients diagnosed via DSM-IV. The research measures outcomes including social avoidance, postevent processing, and self-consciousness at baseline, post-treatment, and three-month follow-up. Results indicate that MCT was marginally more effective than the control intervention in reducing specific symptoms.
