A Multisite Randomized Controlled Trial of Mindfulness-Based Stress Reduction in the Treatment of Posttraumatic Stress Disorder
Overview
This randomized controlled trial evaluates the efficacy of Mindfulness-Based Stress Reduction (MBSR) compared to present-centered group therapy for treating posttraumatic stress disorder in U.S. military veterans. The study involved 214 participants and measured outcomes using both clinician-administered scales and self-reported checklists over a nine-week period. Results indicated that while both interventions led to significant improvements, the MBSR group showed greater short-term improvement in self-reported symptoms, though this difference did not persist at the 16-week follow-up.
