Effectiveness of the mindfulness-acceptance-commitment-based approach on athletic performance and sports competition anxiety: a randomized clinical trial
Overview
This randomized clinical trial investigates the impact of a Mindfulness-Acceptance-Commitment (MAC) intervention on athletic performance and competition anxiety among student athletes with three to five years of experience. The study involved 31 participants assigned to either an experimental group receiving eight MAC sessions or a control group, with outcomes measured via standardized questionnaires on performance, experiential avoidance, and anxiety. The authors report that the MAC approach significantly improved basketball performance and reduced anxiety and experiential avoidance compared to the control condition.
