Randomized Controlled Trial of Mindfulness-Based Stress Reduction Versus Aerobic Exercise: Effects on the Self-Referential Brain Network in Social Anxiety Disorder
Overview
This study compares the effects of Mindfulness-Based Stress Reduction (MBSR) and aerobic exercise on self-referential brain networks in adults with social anxiety disorder. The research examines changes in behavioral self-views and neural activity within the posterior cingulate cortex and dorsomedial prefrontal cortex using functional magnetic resonance imaging. Findings indicate that MBSR led to greater reductions in negative self-views compared to exercise, with associated improvements in social anxiety symptoms.
