Development and initial evaluation of a smartphone application based on acceptance and commitment therapy
Overview
This paper describes the development and initial exploratory evaluation of a smartphone application based on Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT) combined with web-based psychoeducation, designed as a self-help tool for value-consistent living. The study involved a non-clinical sample of 11 Swedish iPhone users in a quasi-experimental pretest-posttest design without a control group to assess changes in valued actions, psychological flexibility, life satisfaction, and distress symptoms. Results indicated significant increases in valued actions and psychological flexibility with small effect sizes, alongside positive qualitative feedback from participants.
