Feasibility and Acceptability of a Guided Self-Help, Text-Messaging Intervention to Promote Positive Body Image of Emerging Adult Women
Overview
This paper describes an 8-week guided self-help intervention using text messaging to promote positive body image in emerging adult women at risk for disordered eating. The program integrates weight-inclusive health promotion, positive psychology, and Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT) principles such as self-compassion and mindful eating. It reports on a mixed-methods study evaluating the feasibility and acceptability of this technology-based approach among a diverse sample of college women.
