Meta-analysis of the effects of third-wave behavioural interventions on disordered eating and body image concerns: implications for eating disorder prevention
Overview
This meta-analysis evaluates the potential of third-wave behavioral interventions, such as acceptance and commitment therapy and dialectical behavior therapy, for preventing disordered eating and body image concerns in individuals without diagnosed eating disorders. The review synthesizes data from twenty-four studies to assess changes in risk factors among participants, particularly those with elevated baseline symptoms. It reports significant improvements in disordered eating and body image following intervention, noting that dialectical behavior therapy-based approaches showed the largest effects compared to other methods.
