The Effectiveness of Acceptance-Commitment Therapy on Anxiety and Depression among Patients on Methadone Treatment: A Pilot Study
Overview
This pilot study evaluates the impact of eight sessions of Acceptance-Commitment Therapy on anxiety and depression in 28 opioid-dependent patients undergoing methadone maintenance treatment. The research compares outcomes between a case group receiving therapy and a control group, measuring changes via standardized inventories at pretest, posttest, and follow-up intervals. Results indicate that while the therapy significantly reduced depression scores immediately after treatment, these gains were not sustained at the three-month follow-up, and no significant reduction in anxiety was observed.
