Effects of group Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT) on anxiety and depressive symptoms in adults: A meta-analysis
Overview
This meta-analysis evaluates the efficacy of group Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT) for adults with anxiety and depressive symptoms, synthesizing data from 48 randomized controlled trials involving 3,292 participants. The study reports medium-to-large effect sizes for reducing anxiety and small-to-medium effect sizes for depression, noting that group ACT is significantly more effective than non-active controls for both conditions. It further indicates that while group ACT may outperform active controls like CBT specifically for depressive symptoms, treatment intensity and participant characteristics influence outcomes.
